The Best Cuisine on the Island.

Most people know Bermuda for its crystalline waters, pink beaches, free-flowing rum drinks, and the elusive mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. Some might know it as a hotspot for fishing and sailing, a 24 square-mile paradise not far from America’s east coast. Those who have heard tales from fellow travelers also know about the welcoming locals and the island’s inherent safety; that it is a place where one feels at ease walking along any street, whether day or night.

What most people don’t know is that Bermuda is blessed with an attractive blend of local and international cuisine. Taking full advantage of the aquatic delicacies hooked just a few miles off shore, Bermuda’s culinary scene hosts a diverse array of cuisines that are united with a shared drizzle of local flavor.

From sushi to Italian and everything in between, Bermuda’s restaurants will delight you at every turn. Whether you’re on a girl’s get-away, a family vacay, or a work trip, you’ll never find a dull moment at the dinner table.

A favorite among locals and visitors alike, Blu will satisfy any craving under the sun. Offering a broad selection of Sushi, Chinese, Italian, and Steak, there’s something for everyone. Boasting one of the most majestic dinner views on the island, we recommend booking your reservation outside before sunset. Sip an Aperol Spritz while gazing across the harbor as the sky takes on mesmerizing hues and sets over the bustling capital.

A high-class Sushi restaurant nestled in a calm, hidden area of the harbor, you’ll feel your worries wash away to the tune of gentle waves rolling to the dock beside you. At Harbourfront, we also recommend booking an outdoor reservation just before sunset. Chase shovels of fresh tuna tartare with chilled Saki as orange beams filter through the foliage and reflect off the water. You might catch a local family docking their boat in front of your table to pick up some take-out. Be sure to say hi!

3. 1609

Named after the date of Bermuda’s settlement, 1609 is a unique venue with fun drinks and island-style food, like the mahi-mahi tacos with mango salsa. A square two-story structure on the pier of The Hamilton Princess Hotel, sip pitchers of Rum Swizzle while watching a congregation of fishing boats head back to port with fresh fish that might fill your plate the next day. With a beautiful view of the harbor and live music every Friday and Saturday night, we recommend booking 1609 for sunset and wandering over to the band as soon as you pay your bill.

One of The Hamilton Princess’s three restaurants, Intrepid is a newcomer already on its way to becoming a staple. Named after the code name of the hotel’s most prominent guests, Sir William Stephenson, the British spy credited with inspiring the character for Ian Flemming’s James Bond, Intrepid mixes high-end seafood and steak with Bond-inspired cocktails to create an atmosphere straight out of Casino Royale. Try the Vesper, a classic Bond martini (shaken, not stirred), with a seafood tower, and leave dinner with a heavy belly and a hurt wallet. If you’re not quite ready to start dancing after supper, or if your dinner is on a weekday, stroll through the world-class art exhibit featuring Andy Warhol and much more that define the Princess’s first-floor halls.

Looking for a more Italian-focused experience? Little Venice is a hidden gem, a daily favorite for local business people that is less known to visitors. Bermuda’s first Italian restaurant, Little Venice, has served regional delicacies for over 50 years. When you step off the streets of Hamilton and open the door, you’ll find yourself surrounded by floor-to-wall paintings of Venetian scenes that make you wonder whether you found a doorway to Venice itself. You'll lose yourself in this little Italian haven with tableside prepared Cacio & Pepe and Branzino that melts on your tongue.

6. Pearl

A relatively new Sushi restaurant located in the heart of Hamilton’s nightlife, Pearl is the perfect start to any night out on the town. Classic Japanese cuisine infused with modernity, delicious drinks, and personable staff - what more could you ask for? After, head downstairs to the modern bar of Pearl’s sister restaurant Port O Call for some post-dinner, pre-club drinks to the tune of clubby but toned-down music.

An upscale pub atmosphere with fantastic food and drinks, at Harry’s you’ll find a strange combination of business people, fishermen, and tourists that seem a fitting personification of the island’s population. Named in remembrance of Harry Cox to recognize his contributions to Bermuda culture, Harry’s fresh tuna, perfectly cooked steaks, and exclusive house-aged rum will leave you begging for more.

Looking for an excellent lunch steps from the beach? The Pink Beach Club, located at The Loren Hotel, mixes eclectic vibes, islandy beach food, and fruity beverages with an open area overlooking the hotel’s beach. Perhaps better suited as a daytime meal, try an ahi tuna poke bowl made with yesterday’s catch. After lunch, recline on a beach chair with a Dark n’ Stormy and rub your food belly as you gaze out onto the horizon.

Another restaurant overlooking a beach, Sea Breeze is a seafood restaurant located outside under a custom-made wooden gazebo at Elbow Beach Resort. With interesting spins on staple seafood dishes, like the mango and yellow-tail tuna Rainbow Roll, it’s a perfect place to get a healthy dose of mercury. With live music Fridays and Saturdays, you can get out of your seat and dance until the early hours of night.

The oldest pub in Bermuda and inventor of the Rum Swizzle, a famous Bermudian rum and juice beverage, The Swizzle Inn is a must-stop for any visitor searching for cultural education. A less expensive dining option offering mainly pub food, sway to reggae on the porch around a few pitchers of Rum Swizzle. But be warned! Even though it tastes completely absent of liquor, the Swizzle is filled with booze and tends to sneak up on unsuspecting tourists. Located near the airport, we recommend making a pit stop on the way to your hotel. Swizzle is the best start to a Bermuda vacation!
